...and found vines to make the grapevine wreath I've been wanting to adorn my front door, something like the ones we used to have (maybe from the backyard or perhaps purchased at Carolina Pottery) in Salisbury. I threw the wreath together on the front stoop. Then I added lights and put a nail in the door and hung it all up.

After the massive hit of the cranberry chutney (which melded perfectly with our curried menu), I went to sleep and dreamt animal control came out and captured an alligator (or crocodile?) by suspending a net between my house and the house across the street.
It is time for a walk.

It is afternoonish and becoming increasingly difficult to hold fast for this evening's mystery feast with the neighbors to the west. Increasingly difficult, because I have begun a (possibly never-ending) food exchange with the neighbors up the hill to the east. I did all of my cooking and baking last night and decided to take the surplus pumpkin gooey butter cake up the hill. Considering I have a weekend locked in with the books ahead of me, this seemed wisest. So I called and took the pie up and was sent home with brownies and a massive bbq turkey leg. A little later a call: The rest of my package is ready. Didi (I will call her Didi) comes down the hill and we meet in the middle. There are snow flakes in her hair. (It is snowing!!! Just barely, but still.) My package contains many things all stacked neatly in a rather large and sturdy paper grocery bag. Greens, green bean casserole, cornbread, beans, yams, potato salad and various other bits and pieces. Most amusingly: one Michelob light, one grape soda, one orange soda.
Incoming: Dinner has been postponed to the west, so I can eat some sides (green beans and yams) and not feel bad. I will take meat and beverages next door later. The rest will feed me for the next few days in true post-Thanksgiving fashion.

It is 2 pm on a Friday afternoon in mid-November. We sit around in sweaters and leggings and slippers. We eat Stollen and drink Glühwein (mulled wine). Ostensibly we are writing.
It is quite the picture of coziness.

a laptop with a mechanism that slaps closed on your dabbling and chubby little hands, should it find you spending to much time lingering on a facebook, livejournal, youtube smish-smash type site when you are supposed to be doing work, say writing a paper on herr kracht, some lame review sheet or some other berlin q-blah p-blah crap.
said laptop would have the muppet-like teeth of a venus fly trap.

I just bought a ticket for Wilco and Andrew Bird.
That's what I'll be doing this Saturday evening in KC.
Also, I have secured lodging for KC.
I'm getting kinda excited.

Since moving to St Louis I've seen a total of three shows... Chuck Berry (2x) and Franz Ferdinand (1x).
Here are a few shows I would be interesting in the relatively immediate future:
11.02 Old Crow Medicine Show 11.07 Robyn Hitchcock 11.19 Of Montreal
In addition there are a number of shows I would attend were I to come into a ticket.

Precisely the reason I couldn't give it up for any price.

i went out for a drink with someone new. though he was someone new the caption still applies.
nonetheless, i think it's good to practice making conversation. and, going out may have saved me from quitting grad school. yesterday was awful, so the mediocre date shined in comparison.
the image was given to me by last year's swedish exchange student. it came in a set with many other postcards i got on my birthday.
the name of the song i'm listening to rocks.
i'm alone for the weekend, so i'm cleaning house and sorting papers. that makes it feel like sunday when it's only thursday. i truly despise teaching on fridays.

| sources of general anxiety: |
[19 Sep 2007|10:42pm] |
1. leaving the house but forgetting to close the garage door (has only happened once ever). 2. forgetting to teach my class (will never happen). 3. letting my closet get out of control (happens all the time). 4. not writing a certain paper (ongoing). 5. (accidentally) chatting up undergrads and/or married people (rare, but problematic). 6. being overeager (chronic). 7. being apathetic (chronic). 8. forgetting to keep in touch (too often). 9. my mother worrying when i don't post (lately). 10. the house being progressively untidy (over the course of the next year). and 11. weather that is too summer-like (now).

I've been attempting it for quite some time, with absolutely no success:
Finally, it happened and it wasn't even I who started it!
This evening, on my way to ballet sitting at the light at Forsyth and Big Bend, he came careening around the corner, making a left-hand turn.
He smiled, gave a happy nod of recognition and we made steady eye contact for longer than any good drivers ed teacher would approve.
So, after too many goofy grins at clueless old men and graying hippyish women to count, I finally found my cute Volvo-240-wagon-driving counterpart!
He's out there somewhere, just waiting to be my anti-sloth...
Oh, that our paths might cross again!

Just for clarification:
We will not own a spanielish-thing. We will not have odd straight dome hair. We will be curly. And of course we will forsake the sedan for the most nobel wagon.
Still, I like the nifty illustration.
